Hosted by the Columbus RC Racing Club out of Columbus, OH the Winter Midwest Championship is the first major offroad race in the US of the new year. Racers from all across the Midwest and factory pros from across the country come to Columbus to brave the sub freezing temperatures in hopes of starting out the New Year right.

This year's event will again be a challenge as three 1/10th World Champions will be in attendance for the electric event and at least three of the 2008 IFMAR 1/8th World Championships "A" Main final will compete for the gas titles.

Stay tuned here for updates, pictures and videos brought to you by Team Associated.

CRCRC Website

CRCRC Web Video& Chat

LiveRC will also be broadcasting for the event.

Update: Apparently Ty Tessmann will only be competing in the electric portion of the event, so Maifield, Tebo, Robbers and King are the only scheduled IFMAR Finalists to attend.

More outstanding updates Brent - thanks! Congrats on some badass racing and quality finishes. You're really representing well. I'm pumped to see the nitro images and updates. Is the arena as smoky as it looks in that practice video? Are you just dying in there?

Is Ryan M running the World's setup at CRCRC?

Thanks for the kudos...I feel bad, cus 4wd was in the bag for RC in A1 and my mistake took the win from him, but I guess that's racing.

YES, the area is really as smokey as the video shows, if not worse. There are constantly 15 cars on the track with another 15 cars warming up...it's pretty bad at times. I'll snap some photos of the various air filter masks the drivers are wearing.

Ryan is using a variation of the Worlds setup with the truggy rear shock tower.

Thursday – Day 2 of Practice

As the second day of practice starts up, the racers were greeted with another wet track condition. This will be the last time the track sees water and by mid day the track was already pretty dusty. Racers are still testing tires and compounds with most still on a small pin tire. The wear here is very minimal so a few sets of the right tire should get you thru the entire event.

The hot commodity in the pit area is a filter mask of some sort. Even thought the ventilation is quite a bit better today than yesterday, the fumes are still quite potent. A constant haze develops over the track making judging the corners of the track difficult.

Josh Wheeler & Jared Tebo show off the starter masks…they’ll learn…

Here Maifield may look like Darth Vader, but on the track he’s the intimidator. (Note the Airtronics radio…)

Practice is still rough at times with the sessions being sorted by class. An hour of buggy, an hour of Truggy and a half hour of Gas Truck. Unfortunately there isn’t a separation of skill level so sportsman racers are on the track at the same time as pros. This makes it difficult for both drivers as the lap speed is so different between the two groups. During the 6 minute run a driver can get maybe 3-4 laps that are at full speed without a crashed car, turn marshal or tumbling car from another lane impeding the lap.

I was able to get a few laps of Truggy practice featuring Jared Tebo, Josh Wheeler, Ryan Maifield and Cody King. See the video below.

Thanks Nancy...we are still giving Due a hard time about that Outlaw main...lol. I think we're all just worried about the time Dakotah lays the wood to us. I was so impressed by Dakotah's patience and speed in the Mod Truck class...keep up the good work!

Send me that picture when you have a chance. See ya in March!
